This week at CES YouTube will announce the new app update for smart TVs and Android that lets users use their mobile phones and tablets as a remote control for viewing YouTube on their TV. If the TV and Android device are on the same wifi network, you can automatically pair your phone to the TV and control what videos you want to watch, build a watch list, interact with videos, and more.

For those wishing that functionality would come to iOS devices like the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and iPad Mini, it already has! It’s just not in the app. You have to use YouTube’s mobile website for it to work.

In this video I walk you through how to connect your iOS device to your smart TV and use it as a remote the same way Android can. The setup is actually quite simple.
