How To Get Views on Something No One is Searching For

Let’s talk about how to get views and exposure on videos that you’re really excited about and you’re passionate about but other people don’t seem to care as much about as you do. That’s coming up.

“Hi Tim! I wanted to know what can you do if the content that gets the most views is not the content that you truly want your channel to be about? In other words, how can you integrate what you love and still give the viewers what they want to see?”

Oh, man, I love this question. It’s such a good question. I struggle with this on Video Creators myself because if we’re just going to be honest, what you guys really want is how to get more of three things– more views, more subscribers, and more money. And basically, that’s– just to be honest– that’s what most of the audience of people looking for this type of content, that’s what they care about.

But I care about, what I’m passionate about is reaching people and spreading messages that change lives and impacting. And for me, the video or the channel and growing that, that’s not the product. That’s not the goal. Change lives and influencing people, that is actually the goal.

And so I have the same struggles of how do I give people what they want– more views, more subscribers, more money– while then also actually sharing this message of spreading messages that change lives. So the way that I do is I try to do both.

I start by giving people what they want, the stuff that they’re searching for, the things that are valuable and important to them. And then you guys hear me at the end of every single video. I bring this to back to why this actually matters, not just what we’re doing, but why we’re doing it.

So you could do it that way in every single video. You could also do the videos that people want to see, that they’re searching for, that they’re looking to find. And then, use those videos to build a relationship with your viewers, get them to subscribe, get them to love you, like you, know you, trust you, all those things. And then, you can make the video, once in awhile, that really just goes in deep in what you are passionate about. And hopefully, the equity that you’ve built up relationally with your audience for the videos that they actually want then will cross over to the videos that you are actually passionate about.

Another thing that you can consider is something I do here at Video Creators is that I give people here– as much as I can– I give them what they want. But in other places– like I’m thinking of starting a podcast next year. And so for those who are interested, what I’m doing here at Video Creators gives me the exposure that then lets me take not all of them, but some of them will be interested in then going over to hearing just kind of the more passion side.

I’m sorry I don’t really have like a really clean, clear cut answer for you. But I do think that, generally speaking, you got to give people what they want in order to give them what they need. And sometimes, they don’t even know what they need until you give them what they want. So it’s kind of catch-22.
