Sage Advice From 4M Subs and 24 Years of Combined YouTube Experience feat. Chad and Steve [Ep. #274]

My friends Chad (from ) and Steve (from ) joined me in a conversation the other day on our podcast. I asked them what the best advice they had to give to creators are. Here’s what they had to say.

  1. Be a consumer. The best authors are the ones that read the most books. And the best YouTube creators are the ones that watch the most YouTube. Once you become a creator, we notice this “phenomenon” that happens where you’re spending so much time creating, they you watch it less and less and you’re not as versed in YouTube and how it works. It’s easier to be inspired as well when you’re watching other creators, even outside of your niche.
  2. You’re going to slow down. Chad shares what it felt like to hit 100,000 subscribers and get that silver play button. It feels like you’re on top of the world and ready to hit 1 million subscribers, but there will be days your videos don’t do as well as you think they’re going to do. Or videos that do well, but don’t fulfill you. You’ll feel stale and your audience will feel stale. It just happens to every creator. It doesn’t mean you failed, it’s part of the process.
  3. Subscribers aren’t really important. Subscribers aren’t the definition of success. It’s a great number to look at and we all notice the number, but we are seeing more and more channels with smaller channels that are highly successful on YouTube and in their business. Viewer engagement is much more of an indication than the subscriber count.
  4. Whatever insecurities you’re feeling now, you’ll still have them when you grow your channel. Oftentimes, this is even escalated because the stakes are higher, more eyes are on you, and you can’t get it wrong. Enjoy the process and create without worrying about things holding you back.
  5. Respect the audience you have. It’s completely fine to have growth goals, but don’t be so caught up in growing your audience that you’re not honoring the current audience you have who watches every single one of your videos! Continue giving them that value and earn your existing audience.
  6. Try new things. Have you ever noticed that even shows the most cult-like following can only go on for so many seasons? Or bands? They usually switch up their sound every album or so to stay fresh. As creators, we need to apply this to our channels as well. You never know what your audience will resonate with as you switch up your content!

Which of these will you start working on?

Our team is currently working on trying new things! We’re excited to start getting new content on our channel to you so soon.

Keep changing lives,

Tim

P.S. Feel like you’re doing all of these things and still not seeing the results you want? That’s what we’re here for. To guide and coach you through this process! .
