Is it better to target competitive search queries with a high monthly search volume or non-competitive searches with low monthly search volume? It depends on what you’re trying to do. I do both and find that, as a smaller channel with less watch time, I find more success targeting the less competitive searches, but I’ve also successfully targeted popular search queries, as well, although it works best if I can give the video a good boost in watch time right after it’s published.
