There’s nothing my family loves more than fishing on grandpa’s farm.

There’s something about spending quiet moments with family that makes you feel like it’s Christmas morning.

Warm and special.

This feeling of connection is something we strive to teach creators how to do on YouTube.

We try to help creators teach their audience how to FEEL something. Value is important, yes, but someone is much more likely to stick around a channel that makes them feel a certain way, rather than a DIY channel that teaches them something they need to learn one time.

It can be difficult to know what kind of videos you need to make to elicit this feeling and keep your viewers engaged… especially when you don’t have a background in this stuff.

But that’s why we’re here! To help guide you through this stuff. Here’s how to know what videos you need to be making next.

  1. Get to know your target audience. If you’ve been following Video Creators for any length of time, we talk about this a lot, so I won’t go too far into this, but the best tool you have to get to know your target audience is to simply ask them! In our free guide, Product to Profit, I’ll walk you through exactly what questions you can ask your target audience, the psychology behind these questions, and what to do with the data once you have it. If you want that guide, you can download it here.
  2. Clarify WHY your viewers should care about your videos. This question should sound harsh. With 500+ hours of content being uploaded to YouTube every minute, why should your audience care about your content? Because the reality is, if someone else is offering them value (whether it’s entertainment, educational, etc.) or they are improving with each video – that’s who they are going to watch. What is it about your videos that are different than others in your space? How are you bringing your unique personality, skills, and value to your channel? What is someone gaining by spending their time watching your videos? If you’re not sure, it’s time to start working through those things.
  3. Start brainstorming ideas. You’ve got to start somewhere. If you’re trying to create videos that you want your audience to find valuable, brainstorm ideas. You can use your analytics to make videos that are similar to your highest performing videos. You can also use the search tool on YouTube or Answer The Public. Just get started with ideas you think your audience would find helpful and plan out content for the next 1-3 months. This is where you’ll want to plan out your titles and thumbnails too!
  4. Study your analytics. Once you’ve created and published your content, you need to know if it’s actually working. Some of the analytics you’ll want to pay attention to once your content is posted are your views, watch time, CTR, and impressions. These analytics can give you a good idea of how your audience is responding and what videos you want to make next. D’Laina and Lennon, some of the other strategists on my team, walk you through how to interpret these analytics in the video above.

Hope this helps! Thanks for reading.

Keep changing lives,

Tim
