How is it going this Tuesday?

We’ve got some updates from YouTube and wanted to share this with you today so we can help you get on the train EARLY and take advantage of what’s going on with YouTube.

So, if you’re familiar with a little bit of YouTube history, years ago Google launched something ‘Google Podcasts’. That was Google’s effort to better integrate audio into their search engine. This project went quiet after a little while.

In recent years, we’ve seen creators like Joe Rogan, Logan Paul, and the H3 Podcast start publishing their podcast content on YouTube.

YouTube started to experiment and found 15% of people listening to music on YouTube did so in the background. We also know YouTube already sells audio only ads for this type of content.

This past May, YouTube started testing listening controls. This provides a dedicated music player interface in the main YouTube app with 10 sec forward and rewind buttons.

This is a feature that doesn’t make a lot of sense when listening to music, rather, we believe this was intentionally built for podcast listening.

Fast forward to later this year, YouTube introduces chapters and they are creating them automatically on a lot of content, some time segments even ranking in search.

And then we get to September 15th, 2021.

YouTube launched it’s own audio podcast called “” and they are posting it on YouTube.

We believe they are doing this to test how it performs in addition to using the data they have on other podcasts on YouTube as well. (Just a theory of ours.)

And there are conversations we’ve had behind the scenes that we can’t share just yet… but it’s left us with one conclusion:

The podcast industry seems to be capturing YouTube’s attention.

YouTube generated $20 billion dollars last year, while the entire podcasting industry combined didn’t even break $1 billion.

We see Spotify spending billions buying podcasting shows/companies, Amazon working on a podcasting audio app that will integrate better with Alexa, Apple has made several changes behind their podcasting platform and we’re observing it all as YouTube strategists thinking one thing…

Podcasting is about to take off… big.

Right now podcasting feels like YouTube in 2008.

It’s been around for a couple of years. There is a good bit of content on the platform… but we’re seeing predictions that the podcast industry is going to DOUBLE next year.

So, what does that mean for you as a creator?

Well, if it makes sense for you to start a podcast… DO IT!

If you don’t have the ability to hold someone’s attention at length… DON’T do it.

If you’re amazing at making 60 second videos, do shorts.

If you are great at making longer form video content, do that.

This is just another opportunity to grow on YouTube that we’re seeing and if you already have a podcast or have been planning to start one soon… now is definitely the time to do it.

What do you think? You ready to start this thing? 💪🏼
