As more and more news and information has been developing around COV-19, I know a lot of creators are going through different things.

Many of us are switching to remote work (if we weren’t working remotely already), moving in-person events to online, and we’re all learning how to respond to the information we’re getting day to day.

The beginning of last week felt completely different than the beginning of this week.

It’s easy for panic or fear to set in…

…but this too shall pass.

It’s been interesting to see how many of you are slowing down and taking this time to work on your YouTube channels while everything else comes to a stop.

In a few weeks time, we’ll likely return to our busy, rushed lives and have more on our to-do list than we know what to do with.

So, we figured now is as good a time as any to lean back into this time of stillness and re-evaluate how we get things done.

One of our strategists here at Video Creators, D’Laina, did a livestream a few weeks ago on how to get things done as a YouTube Creator and I thought this would be the perfect time to share it with you in hopes that implementing it now will help you implement routines and habits now that you can carry with you once that world keeps spinning again.

Here’s what D’Laina had to say about how to get things done as a YouTube Creator.

  1. Track your time like no one else. We’ve all said at some point that there’s not enough time in the day to get everything done. If you’ve ever felt like that or like you can’t seem to get a handle on your time, just start by tracking it. What are you doing at work? On your lunch break? After work? No judgement here – this is just an honest reflection of how you’re spending your time. You’re just observing here.
  2. Brain dump. Once you track your time for a solid week or two (or however long you feel like you need to), you’ll have a good idea of how you’re spending your time. Once you know how you’re spending your time, now you need to figure out everything you’re not getting done or that you feel like you don’t have time for. Just throw everything down on a piece of paper (or your virtual notes) that you need/want to get done personally, professionally, and with your channel. You can dream big or be practical – just write all of it down.
  3. Create priority columns. Ever heard of ? That’s what we’re going to do here. What things are important to you? Do you need to spend more time filming? Editing? Planning? Organize what is the most urgent/important and what can wait. This is going to help you focus your attention on the things that will move you forward, rather than what’s just keeping you busy.
  4. Plan out your time. When we’re moving from task to task, it’s actually makes our brain lose IQ points. It’s more effective for our brains to do similar tasks at the same time. That’s why batch filming works so well for a lot of creators. Once you’re in the mindset of being ready to film, it’s easier to get a few videos done at a time vs. trying to film week to week. It’s okay if that’s not your work style, but planning out what you’re going to do before you do will allow you to be more intentional with your time instead of working reactively and putting out fires.
