YouTube will be changing how they track and use information for children under 13 years old, which will impact creators who are making videos for that age group.

Comments and notifications will be disabled on their videos and YouTube’s ad system will change to relfect a different approach to serving ads that may or may not be as lucrative as it is today.

So far creators have been responding to the news differently. We’ve seen creators panicking and some quitting their YouTube Channel altogether.

I understand this can be an emotional time for creators who are targeting young children with their videos, so we wanted to take some time to set the record straight with what we know in our latest podcast.

  1. There are not a lot of definitive answers yet. YouTube, themselves is trying to figure a lot of this out and how they’re going to move forward regarding kid’s content.
  2. YouTube is committed to being as clear and transparent as possible. YouTube is doing everything they can to be transparent to creators. They care a TON about their creators and are doing everything they can to support them during this time.
  3. Legal and policy stuff takes time. YouTube has decided not to pull the plug on kid’s content because they believe it is so important. All of this is new and they’re doing everything they can to make sure everything is done legally.

One of the BIGGEST misconceptions we’ve seen going around is that kid’s channels are no longer allowed to monetize their channels.

This simply isn’t true.

While you are not allowed to play targeted ads to audiences 13 years of age or younger, it does not mean you can’t play ads at all on a kid’s channel.

Listen to the podcast to hear more on this as well as some questions we answered from other YouTube creators.

And, of course, have a great weekend and keep changing lives!
