If you enable monetization for your YouTube videos right away, does that mean you’ll get less viewers and subscribers to that video or even for your channel? How many people will abandon your video if an advertisement starts playing before your video content begins? That’s a great question! For this week’s YouTube Q&A we answer that question, but would love to have your input in the comments below.

I’d love any feedback if anyone knows why my YouTube video views and subscribers dropped roughly 99% as soon as my video is monetized? I was running between 10 and 20000 views a day and at least a couple dozen subscribers for several weeks leading into when I monetized my video. Thr very next day after getting the verification email my account was monetized I was getting 20 to 30 views a day and maybe one subscriber every other day. I did absolutely nothing with my video after posting it in June of 2017 and left alone noticing a growing number of views and subscribers then I decided to monetize
I recently monetized my four month old channel. I had 40k views when I switched and was averaging between 700-1100 views a day. In the first week after starting to monetize, views dropped to 500-700 a day. Averaging it out, that’s about a 33% drop.
I suppose on one hand it’s not surprising there’s some drop: sure some people who are just passing through don’t want to sit through a 5 sec ad, but 1/3 seems like a lot.
Same question: Is this normal?
